While the ‘imposter syndrome’ has been gaining considerable media attention recently, much of what is written is wrong, outdated and in some cases damaging.  Firstly, it’s not a syndrome! Secondly, the responses suggested to resolve what can be a genuinely crippling experience are often shallow and misleading.

Coaches have a unique opportunity to support their clients to better recognise how they have come to develop IP, how to distinguish IP from normal self-doubt and to sort the fact from the social media ‘fiction’ of what IP is. 

Building on over 40 years of research into the impostor phenomenon (as it’s correctly termed) and leveraging her own global research, Dr Terri Simpkin provides coaches with the tools and insight to recognise impostor phenomenon (IP) in others and to better build lasting resolutions to it.  Through a mix of collaborative discussion and workshop activities, Terri brings deep insight to a topic that is both topical and important but largely misunderstood.

• Distinguish the fact from the fiction. Find out what IP is and, more importantly, what it is not.

• Examine how individuals develop IP and why it’s sometimes very difficult to resolve.

• Explore what coaches can do to identify the thought patterns and behaviours of IP and how best to support clients to recognise and diminish them.
