Coaches Corner with Tim Anstiss
1. Who or what inspired you to do what you do?
At medical school I realised I was more interested in prevention and behaviour change than diagnosis and treatment. As I worked with individuals with health and wellbeing problems I knew I wasn't 'doing therapy' and it slowly dawned on me that I was doing coaching. But I think the core values here, like many other coaches are around caring, helping and compassion.
2. What do you find most challenging about your work?
Probably the juggling of different things, and getting the balance right. The most common advice I get from people is that I need to focus - but I find sticking to one activity a struggle.
3. What’s the biggest lesson you have learnt in recent years?
The importance of walking the talk and continuing to practice acceptance, gratitude and self-compassion in your own life, not least when the inner critic becomes louder or nastier than usual.
4. If you could wave a magic wand and have one wish for you or your coaching practice, what would it be and why?
To make good progress with the online learning courses I am designing - aiming to help coaches their own wellbeing and personal growth, not just their coaching practice
5. Tell us a fact that not many people know about you ……
