Coaches Corner with Steve Couch

1. Who or what inspired you to do what you do?
I have been lucky to work with so many inspiring people during my career. In a coaching context, I have been most inspired by Professor Alison Hardingham for her sense of what is possible, and Dr Rebecca Jones for her generosity and approach to learning.

2. What do you find the most challenging about your work?
Currently, I am most aware of the challenge of staying silent when teams could learn more from their inter-personal conflict than from my interruption.

3. What’s the biggest lesson you have learnt in recent years?
The power of structured, rather than casual, reflection.

4. If you could wave a magic wand and have one wish for you or your coaching practice, what would it be and why?
The resumption of working and learning together in the same physical space.

5. Tell us a fact that not many people know about you …
I have given evidence to the Devolution (Special Powers) Committee of the Scottish Parliament.
For two consecutive weeks I was second in a national Fantasy Football League of over 18,000 members.
