This workshop will consider the increasing interest and use of creative and arts-based tools and methodologies in coaching (and supervision) practice, looking through the lens of the coaching itself as a creative act, rather than simply the use of a tool. Learn in this experiential workshop how might we consider all coaching as inherently creative, versus only where there is a 'creative tool' chosen for exploration.
Participants will be invited to reflect on their personal relationship with creativity and arts-based practice as a foundation in considering the role of creativity and the use of creative tools in client work. There will be opportunities for group and individual reflection built in to the session, with an invitation to try out Beth’s research methodology (using music and mark-making to aid reflective practice) alongside explorations of other techniques which could aid participants in exploring their 'creative self' in service of their coaching (and supervision) work.
Beth will refer to her reflective co-authoured guide to working ethically with creativity produced for the Association for Coaching. This is a resource designed to support coaches and supervisors in developing the self through creativity, and deepening their own connection to creativity before bringing it into their client work.
Beth is a coaching psychologist, artist and researcher. She is a Senior Practitioner with the EMCC and volunteers for EMCC UK as Deputy Director for Research in Coaching Practice, and co-lead for the Coaching Psychology Special Interest Group. Beth is an experienced facilitator, regularly presenting workshops and participating in panel discussions and podcasts on the topic of creativity in coaching practice.
Beth has a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology and is currently undertaking her PhD, exploring the role of arts-based approaches in coaching supervision and reflective practice to support coach-practitioner development and identity.
