Coaches Corner with Aboodi Shabi
1. Who or what inspired you to do what you do?
That’s a difficult one to answer succinctly, but growing up as a Third Culture Kid definitely gave me a curiosity about the things people took for granted about their worlds – that made me a rather annoying and provocative child, but turned out to be a useful place to come from as a coach.
2. What do you find the most challenging about your work?
As Sir John Whitmore used to say being a good coach requires ongoing work on ourselves, and that’s not always easy – we have to work hard to stay in shape to do the work we do, especially in these challenging times.
3. What’s the biggest lesson you have learnt in recent years?
That the world has gone nuts, and the challenges this presents to coaches.
4. If you could wave a magic wand and have one wish for you or your coaching practice, what would it be and why?
I’d love to do more coaching in the political sphere, and to support politicians under impossible pressures.
