The Love Paradox: how to unblock access to your best and healthiest self

Times: 18h15 Registration and Networking

18h45 Session begins and finishes at 20h15

Lets get straight to the point. Proof – if you love yourself more, your health, the quality of your interpersonal relationships, your work and even your career stand to be positively transformed. As coaches and caring human beings we intuitively know that self-love is the basis of transformative coaching. But now we also have the science to back this up. The neurobiology of connection shows us important insights about how presence, attunement, love and compassion help people achieve more and live more.

Welcome to the paradox of love. The paradox is that fear blocks access to love and yet it is love itself that heals fear. For over two decades I have been probing how minds wire up and function as a neuroscientist, coach and integration pioneer.   I am fascinated by how we can engage the mind to be our friend instead of our foe. How we can use it for healing and what is possible when we help our clients integrate their mind, heart, body and spirit. In my view, a conflict between these four parts lies at the basis of so many issues clients bring to coaching. And, I share that human story as well. While trying to earn love and acceptance I managed to hurt my body, drive myself crazy and suffer a good deal of emotional pain that could have been avoided. It was only when I began to accept myself for who I was, things as they really were and began to align that the inner conflicts lessened. In the process, I regained a sense of faith and aliveness and helped countless others discover the same.

In this workshop, I‘d like to invite fellow practitioners and those interested in coaching to explore how we can change our relationships with life, ourselves and the world with simple presence and attunement to each other and to what’s going on inside our hearts and minds.

This is a fully experiential session. Participants will work in pairs and small groups.

Dr. Magdalena Bak-Maier is a neuroscientist, integration pioneer, author, and coach with a “Physician of the Soul” label who has a gift for teaching people how to use their nervous system to create what they actually want and heal in the process. She does this by helping people discover and tap the power of internal unity. A dedicated educator, Magdalena is an internationally recognized thought leader in the area of human empowerment. She is the only UK coach to have two Dossiers in Psychologies Magazines showing how integration benefits human development, prevents burnout, increases productivity and engagement, and forms the basis of nurturing human interactions.  Her work has merited two invited masterclasses at the British Psychological Society, coaching skills workshops and invited keynotes for the Association for Coaching. She has received invitations to share her views with BBC Radio, The Guardian, OECD, United Nations Career Roundtable Conferences and the New York Times Women’s Network, as well as two TED talks on the power of heart and mind integration and kindness. Her 1:1 coaching practice impacts a uniquely broad spectrum of people including change makers, artists, top scientists, people in business, church leaders and fellow practitioners. What unites them is a desire to feel centered and find meaning. Magdalena loves to learn with others and regularly studies with other practitioners. She currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Association of Coaching and Therapy Practitioners (AICTP). For more information visit
